Coaching, Hazardous Movements, and Use Cases
π― The Goal: Real-Time Coaching for Safer Movement
SoterCoach is designed to coach workers in the moment, helping them develop safer movement habits that reduce injury risk.
When a hazardous movement is detected, the device waits until the worker returns to a neutral posture, then delivers a gentle vibration and beep. This immediate feedback encourages the worker to adjust their behavior next time β building muscle memory and supporting long-term behavioral change.
π What Is a Hazardous Movement?
A hazardous movement is one that increases the risk of musculoskeletal injuries. The SoterCoach device identifies and responds to 10 key movement risks, broken down by body region:
π Spine Program
With Haptic Feedback:
- Poor bending (>90Β° forward)
- Back twisting while bending (twist >30Β° with bend >50Β°)
- Intense bending (sudden, jerky motion)
Tracked in Dashboard Only:
- Awkward static posture (bend >60Β° held for >20 seconds)
- Repetitive movements (2+ hazardous movements in a minute)
πͺ Shoulder Program
With Haptic Feedback:
- Arm elevation (>90Β° in any direction)
- Unsafe pushing and pulling (jerky motion with open shoulder)
- Overexertion (elevated arms >90Β° for 20%+ of shift)
Tracked in Dashboard Only:
- Static arm elevation (>30 seconds)
- Repetitive arm movements (>2 times per minute)
π What to Expect During the Program
- Days 1β2: Most notifications occur; workers become aware of risky movements.
- After Day 3: Workers adapt their movements and see fewer alerts.
- Dashboard Insight: Managers can monitor which risks are improving and where coaching may be needed.
π Feedback = Progress
- More beeps early on means the system is working.
- Fewer beeps later signals that the worker is learning and improving.
